7 Tips for the Husband/ Wife Team

So, James and I have decided that my place in the company should expand into a larger role, that of the second shooter. I have always been the assistant (although he does use my shots too) I guess the pressure is no to step up my game. But anyways, I read a post on Me Ra Koh's Blog about working with your spouse. It was so funny and true. Now that I am really getting deep into the business with James taking me on as a partner, I did a little research of my own. And so I found 7 tips for spouses that run a business together. I hope it helps. :)

1. Make sure both partners share a burning passion for the same home business venture. You don't want to invest in widgets and find out later that your husband wanted to open a sports- related Web site.

2. Discuss openly any family obligations that might interfere with business commitments. Decide which is most important to you, your son's baseball game or learning to use a new financial spreadsheet program on your computer.

3. Decide to discuss honestly any problems you encounter. In one case I know of, a wife who believed in purchasing only the best- quality, highest-priced office furniture, for their home office. The budget-conscious husband literally hit the roof when he discovered his wife had spent almost a years budget on what he called "over-priced office doodads."

4. Agree how the profits will be split. Know who is responsible for paying the bills. How much will be invested back into the business?

5. Clearly outline what duties each person will perform daily. This will decrease conflicts considerably and help the work flow smoothly.

6. Treat each other as professionals, while respecting each other's unique contributions to the business.

7. Always remember that your marriage is your first priority in your life, more important than any business issue that might arise.

So, I got a little tip that the Senior of the FBA Swim Team were planning on toilet papering my house to finish off their season. So, James and I waited outside on the steps until we saw them coming. They were so obvious. They only circled our house about 5 times, slowing down each time. Then they sent 2 girls out to check it was my house, by seeing if it was my car in the driveway. They walked right by me and didn't even notice me! So we got ready for them. James got the video camera and I got the hose (reminder it's October in Ma... not so warm out) As they inched closer, I couldn't help but giggle. And when they got close enough... I hosed them. They went screaming up the driveway. And do you think that the hose would stop them from tp'ing my house? Nope! They continued to tp while I stood there. I heard them say, "she's just standing there". But what they didn't realize was every time they got within range of the hose, I would give them a spray. I let them take their pictures and be on their way, but not without a final full team spray as they ran down the street. It was good clean fun, so why spoil it. And thanks to the girls! They all came and helped pick up the next day. But watch out girls, next year I will be better prepared. ;)

By the way.... we don't have night vision on the camera, and James was hiding in a tree, so not much to watch on the video, but the audio is hysterical! Watch for the girls running into the street!

Wow,
What a crazy few weeks we've had! Since Sept.1st Layla has started back at school. Both AJ & Layla have had birthdays. We have gone apple picking and pumpkin picking. We have had a wedding or photo shoot every weekend. I have been full steam with FBA swim team (we are 3 to 1)I am helping James re-vamp his image for The Feds Studio. I am rapping up the busy wedding season, videos, photos, etc. And to top it all off I am working hard at getting my business plan together for yet another great idea. Phew! This month doesn't look like any break in sight! Hey keep an eye out for my 101 in 1001, coming soon!

Sorry,sorry,sorry for total neglect. I noticed that my last posting was over a month ago. Yikes! I haven't really been blog stalking either. Since mid August, I have been slammed. As you all know James offcially quit his day job to do photography full time. So, I needed to pick up more hours to help along in the beginning. Along with working more hours, I began coaching the Fontbonne Varsity Swim Team, which takes up almost my whole week. And to top it off, I have been booked up almost every weekend for weddings, either doing makeup or photography. Woooo. I need a break. I am also working hard at developing a great new business opportunity for The Feds Studio. Hopefully this will become my full time job. But, it's almost October and this very busy few months are finishing up. I see a clearing ahead. So, I'm justing going to keep on truckin!

Indulgence

That's the name of my newest endeavor. I have officially become a professional makeup artist. I have several gigs in the works and hope to book up more fast! I have my pro kit and will be training with ElitePro. Indulgence is the name of well my company, but not really. It's more of a brand. And a subdivision of The Feds Studio which is our "real" company. But like I said it's my brand. And my logo is "Sweetness for your face"... I know, it's awesome huh? I love it anyways. I can't decide on colors, theme etc. I was thinking candy, chocolate, you get the point. I had fun with my first few trial runs on my upcoming brides. And they all have completely different styles which I love, because I am never bored! So if you know anyone in need of a makeup artist, send them my way! I would greatly appreciate it. I don't charge for travel within the Boston Metro area. And I am currently doing trials for free. And that's the scoop!

I came home from vacation and immediately began blog stalking. And of course Largo was on the top of my list to stalk. Chris of Largo called me out to talk about myself. Ha! As a woman, that's no problem! Here it goes.....

1. I met my husband when I was 15 years old and never looked back. We've only been married 3 years, but have been together for almost 11 years.

2. I CANNOT resist the temptation of Circus Peanuts (the candy). I can't quiet figure out the actual flavor though.

3. I studied Spanish and Pre law in college, ha and now I do make up and photography for a living!

4. I am infamous for not being able to make my mind up in all aspects of my live, what to eat, what movie to see, what I want to do for a living (I think I nailed that one now!) and even hobbies!

5. I played with matches when I was 9 years old and set my hand on fire. Now I know why my parents said not to play with matches!

6. I may have a slight shopping problem. I foresee an intervention in the near future.

7. I am one of the guys, and I don't get grossed out easily. I love goofing around with the guys.

8. I am the only one in our circle of friends without a nickname, Jubb,Can,Chupes, Boomhower,Fifi,Fed,Ton,Carter, etc. :(

Today is the first day of a predicted week of rain, yes that's New England for you. But, I do love the summer rain, when it's warm enough to go out and play in the puddles. Layla had a blast splashing all over the driveway. Bella was not as thrilled about it. Her banana was getting wet, don't mess with this child's food. I caught a mid- jump puddle splash of Layla with my little cheap canon digital. Enjoy!

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IN BRAINTREE!

What? I know that's what you're thinking about my title, but I'll explain. My backyard has become a National Geographic episode. So the other day the fam was BBQ'in in the yard. We could hear chirping from the tree above. We watched and saw 2 robins waiting to land in their nest, mouths full of worms. But because we were sitting there, they were scared. James didn't believe me that there was a nest full of babies, so he climbed the tree to see. And because I couldn't resist, I climbed the tree too, skirt and flip flops didn't stop me! The poor babies were crying and hungry so I made everyone move the BBQ inside so the robins would feed the babies. So as I was going up our stairs, I noticed that you had a perfect view of the robins feeding the worms to the babies, I called everyone out to watch. It was incredible, a true National Geographic moment. The kiddies learned first hand about the birds & bees. And to top it off, the following day we watched snails crawl down the side of our stairs. (Grandma brought sea snails over from her ocean home). Watch out Bindi Erwin, here comes The Federico Girls. If you don't know who Bindi is, google it! She's famous.

So for Christmas Grandma got Layla a real digital camera (per our request). Grandma searched high and low for the coveted Fisher Price Digital Camera in Pink. You see, Layla loves helping Daddy and Mommy take pictures. But the problem is she wants to hold our very expensive cameras all by herself. Very scary for us. So I saw a commercial for a REAL digital camera that is unbreakable... the commercial has a tot dropping the camera down the stairs. I could totally see Layla doing that. So our little Layla has developed into a budding artist. She tells us to smile and where to stand. She still hasn't mastered looking into the eye piece, but lucky for her she can look through the large screen. And now the littlest Fed, Bella, is starting to shoot with the pink digital. It's a family affair. Love it! Here are a few of her photos. Keep in mind the quality is very low, after all it's a toy!

Well, maybe some of you know this and maybe you don't, but it is James' lifelong pledge and oath to hurt himself at least once a day, if he's feeling up to it, possibly twice or more a day. He is by far THE MOST ACCIDENT prone person I have ever met. Baby G comes in a close second, but she is only 2 and has an off sense of equilibrium. Who knows James' excuse. He can do amazing physical skills with balance and poise. He has a reaction time of a leaping spider, so why so many falls, slips, spills, bumps, trips, oh the list could go on and on? I feel bad, but I don't even flinch when I hear "OOOUUUUCCCHHH!!!" You think I am kidding right? Since last year James has....
- Totaled our car.
- Sliced his thumb almost completely off when cutting a bagel
- Sprained his finger, knuckle, and thumb. All at different times.
- Fallen down our stairs at least a dozen times (Not joking, a full flight of stairs)
- Countless mystery injuries from the day job.
- Sliced his hand open twice from playing with our adorable 8 lb. puppy.
- Sliced his elbow and knuckles open on our plastered wall in the hall way.
- Got a car door slammed on his leg. (My bad)
- Countless crouch shots by our little harmless girls. (Hope we can have more)
- Multiple toe jams to nearly breaking them.
- A few nose bangs, usually by a child's head.
- A couple of turned ankles.

The list could go on and on and on. These are just a few that come to my immediate memory. I know you still think I am joking. So I captured yet another James catastrophe on camera. By the way this one's not on my list. But hey, some how he pulls thru without even a doctor's visit. And I love him!

Well, if you didn't already know. The Feds Studio is now offering Senior Portraits. But this aren't yo momma's senior portraits, where she dresses you up like it's Easter and your 5yrs. old. Nope these are more like edgy magazine styles... think Rolling Stones Mag or Cosmo... hey even Sports Illustrated. It's new, fresh and different then ANY OTHER PHOTOGRAPHER around here! Trust me I searched high and low. Same old thing, gray backdrop and the fist propped under the chin. AAAHHHH, boring! In my search I have found my true inspiration! Largo Photography out of AZ is friggin awesome!!!!! Check them out! I can only wish that someone would have made me look this cool in high school! Let's remember ourselves the way we really were. My senior pic was leaning against a flowering tree with a pretty pastel dress on, slight tilt in the head and the fakest smile on Earth. Does that sound familiar? Ha! Yeah! I don't care if I'm in my 20's now, I am totally making James take a senior photo session of me! So watch out for some of the hottest pics to hit the Tree and Ma ever! Wow, I'm cocky. hehe!

Divas & Princesses

Well, this past weekend was Italya's 4th birthday. She had it at Divas & Princesses in Easton. It was so cute. They got their nails done, hair up-do's and makeup too! Then it was the fashion show, the lights went down and the music turned on. Layla did a curtsie at the end and Bella was so funny, she would only walk half way and then cut the girls to go again. This was then followed by a tea party. Porclein tea cups, we laughed becaues they gave Bella a glass cup.... it was only a matter of time before she would smash it on the ground. (By the way she didn't) It was a great day for the girls and they looked too cute! Love my girls!

Ok, so James and I have decided that the logo for the Feds Studio perhaps isn't going to work out. Mostly because I wasn't loving the website. I thought it was too masculine. Hey, rather change it up now in the beginning then 5 years from now. James told me that company's change their logo anywhere from 7 to 12 times before they get one that sticks. So I follow a few photographers blogs. I was checking out Jessica Claire's Blog and the post title was Annabelle in Wonderland. It got my attention because I have an Annabelle myself. It was about her niece's b-day party. Then I saw the picture of the bottle and cookie. I absolutely LOVED it. In the meantime James & I were trying to figure out a logo. For days racking our brains. Then it clicked. The bottle. It's edgy, and cool. It's not too girly or masculine. And it's not cookie cutter wedding looking. Well, James likes the idea and you know I love it... so watch out for a possible new look to The Feds Studio. Coming Soon!

My husband is my world. He has given me love like no other. We have grown up together from children to parents. He has given me the greatest gift in my life... my girls. Without him I would never have felt the love of being a mother... the feeling is sublime to hold your child for the first time. He has wiped away my tears and given me a warm embrace when I need it the most even if he is hurting too. He puts himself last and myself and girls first above all else... He makes me giggle in the night and always kisses my good night. He loves me despite my faults, rather he loves me more. I can only hope everyone in the world is as lucky in love as me.... what a world we would live in!

We spent the day at Castle Island in South Boston. It was great! We went at about 9 AM, so there was barely anyone there, just the locals. Sully's was already open and there was no line! The girls played on the playground, again no fighting over swings because no one was really there. Azalea enjoyed a little bit of James' cheeseburger. And the girls played ring around the rosie. Annabelle loved seeing the planes over head. All in all a great day!

Ok, so I just watched the final of American Idol. I haven't been following it, but I must say I am SHOCKED that Blake is in the final. Does anyone else think that this kid can't sing? Yeah, he's entertaining and a good beat boxer, but come on. So the other person Jordin I thought was good in the beginning, but her first song wasn't good at all. So, I started blogging on my other site Boston Brides and kind of wasn't watching. Then Jordin came on for her final song, the one that they write. She blew me away! It was really good, I would listen to it on the radio and sing along! And she started to cry, ooohhh. So, my vote is for Jordin, sorry Blake! Wo do you like?

Well, we had a blast at George & Sarah's wedding. They are such a fun and happy couple, and so were their guest. I have yet to be to a wedding with so many people dancing the night away (rivals my own wedding) I was even dancing while taking pictures, James saw my hips shaking a little. Sarah did a great job planning every last detail, including their grand entrance to the reception! And George kept his cool, he told me before the ceremony he wasn't nervous, but he was EXCITED! I know they will be happy forever! Good luck guys! Love ya!

New Office in Hingham Center!

Hey everyone,
I am pleased to tell you that we have officially got a studio space in Hingham Square. Andrew Zona, owner of AZ Studio (Shout out Missie) and I have worked out an agreement. He has an awesome studio space above his salon that matches our needs perfectly! So, this will be my new home away from home to meet all our potential clients. Great atmosphere and great location! PLus you just might meet the hairdresser of your dreams, haha.

This is going to be our new puppy. AAWWW!!! Isn't she cute? It was a tough decision between her and another pup. We still don't know which one we are actually getting, but the chances are good this is the one. She is a Mini Australian Sheperd. Yeah, I didn't know there were mini ones either. I always liked Aussies, but they were took big for our home. But one day, we went to the pet store and Layla insisted on holding this puppy. The sales guy said the pup was a mini. Well we thought that was GREAT. But, after looking at the medical records, and the fact that pet stores are known for being puppy mills, James suggested that we llok for a breeder. I found a breeder in Ma. Radiant Aussies (google it) and the woman, Rayma, was so nice. She told me about a new litter born just a few weeks ago from a pup she sold to a really nice couple, Kerry & Lauren) So, we went for a visit (the whole gang) James, Layla, Bella and me all fell in love. We just couldn't decide which we wanted. So it was down to the Blue Merle (gray, black and white) or the Red Merle (brown, white and tan) The pic is of the red merle. We will be getting her in about two weeks, and you know there will be lots of photos up when we get her!!!!

Hey all this was officially my first wedding as a shooter. Well I guess all the photography talk that I am inendated with from living with a photography fanatic finally paid off! Ha, love ya James. I think I did pretty good, James actually put some up on his "official blog" Yeah, I think it's all the magazines, books, blogs,websites, and anything else that is wedding and photography that James makes me review and critique constantly, yeah that's where the credit should go to. Listen to me, ha, I am so modest! No really guys, I am proud I could do such a good job for Cathy & Don... after all it's the most important day of their lives!

Well, as most of you know we have ventured into our own wedding service company. James' photography was doing well, but putting Jubb as head videographer and myself for booking, his photography company has developed into a huge undertaking. Trust me, we were not aware of the outstanding response we are receiving from wedding planners, venues, and brides alike. Hey we are glad to be busy, just didn't realize how fast it would happen. We must be doing something right! Like always showing up with a smile and being sincere about what we do and who we are. Our hopes are that this company will be super successful, not that we need to be millionaires or anything, we just want to be around to see our kids grow up and not to drudge of to the 9-5 daily grind! Keep the love coming! Because what comes around goes around... share love and receive love. We are passionate about what we are doing and take pride in it, i.e. showing the love.

The Secret!

So, lots has happened this week for me. I watched this movie my sister, Aimee, said I had to see. It's called "The Secret" and it's been on Oprah and Larry King. It is a documentary on the concept of positive thinking and believing. The "secret" is the Law of Attraction. If you put out negative vibes then the Law of Attraction says that negative vibes will come back to you and vice verse. I was totally sucked into it and I am on board. The very next day, I tried it out and nothing but good things happened to me, all be it small good things. It has been almost a week since I have seen it and good things keep on coming my way! The first day, I got a free floor tiles. The entire week my 3 yr old has been a saint (not always the case) and today I landed my dream job of becoming a wedding planner, where I get to work out of my house and the owner of the company said I can easily make upwards of $100k!!!!! It's called Groove Entertainment. I am truly a believer now. I am going to take "The Secret" Course online. Everyone should check this out!
